I started dermatology yesterday. Thought it would be confusing and boring and smelly.
It *is* (often) smelly - but actually interesting and kind of makes sense (most of the time). They are pretty methodical about taking diagnostics (impression smears, skin scrapings, etc.) in order to figure out what is going on because, let's face it - many skin diseases look alike. Then there are fairly clear-cut guidelines about what drugs and doses to use for which conditions.
The hours are very nice too - 8 to 5-ish with no on-call and rare inpatients.
I also realized the other day that I won't be in the main teaching hospital for the next 2-3 months and when I do come back it will be on anesthesia where I don't have to write records or have inpatients! My next few blocks are vacation or ancillary services (ophthalmology, community surgery, etc.) that operate out of different buildings. That realization made me incredibly happy.
