Ewww.

I'm still really enjoying dentistry. It's a good rotation for someone like me who is into semi-instant gratification. You scale the teeth and the calculus falls off. You extract the dead teeth and (sometimes) suture the sockets. Action, result. (Very different from internal medicine, but I digress).
The one thing that is a little hard to deal with are the cases of severe periodontal disease. I'm talking animals whose mouths smell like corpses, enema material, morning-coffee-cigarette breath, and so forth. One recent patient was so bad that I had to wear a mask while examining the oral cavity. Also, scooping pus out of the mouth is kind of nasty (same patient).
I had to keep swearing to the resident that I usually don't get grossed out so easily! Fortunately they told me that particular patient was the worst case they had ever seen.
2 more days until a desperately needed 5-day break!!!!!
